Grounds Committee Update

For November we have implemented our lawn maintenance format. Due to the pace of the growing season and the pace we are continuing to mow the grass on a bi-weekly basis. All areas needing to be blown are being blown as well. Any areas of turf that were not accessible by the mower were maintained by a weed eater. We continue to keep the decks on all machines raised to help promote efficient growth of the grass. All ponds have effectively been mowed and weed eated, as well as proper maintenance to the boat landing. Within the next month we should expect to really see both the grass as well as the shrubs begin to slow down as they are both beginning to transition into its winter dormancy. At this point the turf and shrubs will be reaching it transition period in the year where it all begins to slow down and will not require the rigorous schedule that the summer maintenance schedule demands.
We have pruned all shrubs and wax myrtles at the entrance and the causeway of Walling Grove. We have entered that time of year where it is the general rule of thumb to no longer prune azaleas. If an azalea is pruned too deep, it can disrupt the bloom for the next season. These are very sensitive blooms and because the blooms are so short we try to refrain from any kind of pruning just so we make sure the flowers are being preserved
We have received the approval for the work to be conducted to the newly constructed burms at the entrance to the community. The plantings will consist of (2) Pindo Palms, 1 on each side of the road. The plantings will also include the installation of muhly grass to help stabilize the bank as well as provide a little color seasonally to the burms.
We have provided two separate estimates for additional work to be completed in Walling Grove. The first estimate was for the edging of all road sides within the Walling Grove community. What we would do is use a gas powered edger and edge all excess grass that is overhanging onto the road. The second estimate provided was for the wax myrtles and all excess overgrowth that has grown into the mowing buffer on the roadsides. If the proposals are accepted the work can be scheduled and completed promptly.
We continue to monitor all fallen limbs and debris within the common areas and properly disposing of it. We also continue to pick up any trash within the common areas.
We have joined the PLANET organization. This will help qualify us as an elite landscaping company in the green industry. The association provides ongoing educational and safety programs and features a national certification program that ensures that PLANET members have the knowledge and technical expertise necessary to perform their jobs at the highest standards.
