Hargray Communication
Posted on Aug 30th, 2015
Hello Walling Grove!
Recently the Walling Grove Board met with members of the Pleasant Point HOA and Hargray Communications to discuss the possibility of Hargray Communications running Fiber Optic cable to our locations. They would offer Hargray’s High speed internet, HD television and land line services, to Walling Grove and Pleasant Point.
Hargray has fiber at Telfair and on Springfield Road. For Hargray to invest in the infrastructure and labor to run service, they would need a certain number of homeowners to commit to the service once installed. We (Walling Grove Reps, and Pleasant Pt reps) gave Hargray the go-ahead to do their initial survey to determine a rough cost estimate, which will indicate how many home owners would need to commit to move forward.
Hargray is now developing a rough estimate and will report that information to the boards. Dataw recently did the same thing with Hargray and they needed about 50% of the homes to commit. Once Hargray reports their findings, homeowners who want to commit would be required to fill out a form and a pay a $25.00 deposit that will be refunded on their first Hargray bill.
It will take approximately 4-6 weeks for Hargray to get back to us with their initial findings. Once we get the findings we will make that information available to the community. Hargray will also attend "town hall meetings," or the annual meeting in November to answer your questions.
Some thoughts to consider:
-The service would be run overhead on Middle Road and buried in the neighborhood
-Fiber service to homes can increase the value of homes by as much as 5-6%
-Fiber cable would be run and every house would have access (if desired)
-No metering or data limits
-No metering or data limits
Speeds and services:
-50 mbps minimum internet - 100 mbps available. The fiber will be able to deliver 1 gig speeds when available
-HD TV
-Land line phone service
-HD TV
-Land line phone service
Common Questions:
-How will the fiber be run to my house?
[Buried about 6 inches deep to your house, with a box placed on the outside of your house.]
-How does the service run inside my house?
-How does the service run inside my house?
[Cat 5 or cat 6 is required from the box outside to inside the house. Hargray will most likely offer installation discounts… if it’s not free for homes needing this.]
